06 Nov 2015 - 08 Nov 2015
The venue for the November meet was the Smiddy at the bottom end of Glen Etive. We had a full house with 15 members & guests attending for the weekend. Great to see so many new members on the meet – welcome to you all!
After a bit of a struggle to get the hut water supply working we settled down with the usual Friday evening banter augmented by some intensive work filling in forms to assist with a research project looking at the effects of outdoor exercise on emotional well being. This exercise was aided by some excellent cakes supplied by Janet & Josee and a few drinks.
With daylight hours being short in November, Saturday saw an early start. A large group – Lindsay, Lawrie, Alan, Davie & Janet – headed for Meall nan Eun. They were joined by Josee, Scott, Sue & Colin who then headed onto Stob Coir an Albannaich and just about managed to return in daylight. Katie, Lucy, Dau & Gintas were seen to be analysing climbing guides over breakfast but elected to head for the Starav group and an even longer day. Gav headed for Beinn Trillechan while Colin drove back to Crianlarich to climb Beinn Chabhair. Despite a fairly pessimistic forecast weather was pretty good – mostly dry and mostly clear summits. We returned to the hut to complete part 2 of the survey (it isn’t clear if we were more positive after a good day on the hill but it can’t have done any harm!)
Sunday was a beautiful day. Katie & party headed to Agag’s Groove and Curved Ridge on the Buachaille (the previous day’s analysis of guide books was clearly just very advanced planning!). Janet, Alan, Lawrie, Davie & Gav headed a bit up the glen to Beinn Maol Chaluim. Sue & Colin did a bit of low level wandering & the others headed home. Good weekend!
