Braemar

06 Feb 2015 - 08 Feb 2015

A group of 14 arrived at various times on Friday at the Shieling, between 4pm and midnight, those who arrived early were handed a peeler to prepare the tatties and neeps for the Saturday night Burns Supper.

Saturday>> Awoke to a cold and clear sunny morning .  Kenny was first to set off to catch the 08:20 bus for Inver, being the starting point for his days walk over Culardoch and Cairn Liath, returning to Invercauld for the afternoon bus back to Braemar.   Dave, Alan, Lindsay, Scott, Wendy, Phoebe and Christine drove round to Auchcallater then headed up the Callater Glen and traversed over Sron Dubh to the summit of Creag nan Gabhar, from the top they decided to head down the broad ridge to Lochcallater Lodge Bothy for a late lunch, as there was little shelter from the cold wind on the tops.   It was a pleasant surprise to meet Brian in the bothy, who had walked up the Callater Glen.     Grant made his way round to Glen Quoich for a days photograghy ,   Angus was to head for Ballachbuie Forest but changed his plans due to the road walk instead had a fine day on Morrone above Braemar. Colin, Sue, Paul and Phil headed to Glen Ey for a day’s ski trip over Carn Bhac, but found at times ski-ing over grass as well as snow, as at places the tops were wind swept of snow, same conditions were found by all parties.   There was probably more snow in Braemar than on the tops.

Ian, Innes and Colin joined the group for another grand Burns Supper on Satuday night , Angus gave the “ Dressing of the Haggis” and his Tam o’ Shanter was full of passion and actions ”” Well done Angus, great stuff””

Sunday >> Dave, Alan, Lindsay, Christine, Kenny, Angus and Phil had a great day on Carn na Drochaide, the views were amazing, especially looking out to the Cairngorms, it was one of those days you were reluctant to come off the hill, “Brill”.  As those were the only names in the Meet Book for Sunday , I can only assume the rest of the group headed for home or “gone walk abouts”.
